Dice Thrown is an opera directed by John King with choreography by Stephan Koplowitz and musical direction by Marc Lowenstein with scenic design by Lianne Arnold, video design by Pablo Molina, and costume design by Hunter Wells. It is based on a symbolist poem “Un coup de des jambs n’ abolira le hazard” (A Throw of the dice will never abolish chance) by Mallarme. It follows the format of John Cage and was performed nightly with a set of pre-determined performance and design criteria that by “chance” would sync in unique and harmonic ways allowing the performer and audience to have a truly organic experience.
